VWEC Expert Series featured Alice Krueger/Gentle Heron on Friday, July 25, 2025. Gentle Heron talked about “Misinformation in Science.” This talk was derived from “Understanding and Addressing Misinformation About Science,” a publication of the US National Academy of Sciences published in late 2024. Fran held a machinima workshop on July 21, 2025, during the Summer of Fun at VWEC. The class showed you how you can set up your computer to record video in Second Life using a free open-source application called OBS. The Virtual Worlds Education Consortium July Quarterly Meeting was July 9, 2025. At the Quarterly Meeting we explored how educators, students, and lifelong learners can collaborate to navigate the evolving landscapes of the metaverse. We were honored to welcome Dr. Tom Boellstorff, cultural anthropologist and author of “Coming of Age in Second Life”, who shared insights and lead a discussion on how we can work across disciplines, generations, and platforms to make virtual spaces more accessible, inclusive, and meaningful for education. VWEC celebrated its 4th anniversary on May 17, 2025. Four years of fostering curiosity and igniting innovation! VWEC celebrated volunteers, speakers, supporters, and members of the community. There were awards, acknowledgements, and speeches. VWEC is grateful for all of our volunteers and supporters. We could not do it without you. Mark your calendars for May 2026 to be part of the celebration next year. There will be more fireworks, dancing, and great music when the talking is over.
